The Markup, a tech-focused investigative news site, raises $20 million from Craigslist founder
Praised previous ProPublica investigative columnists Julia Angwin and Jeff Larson are propelling their most up to date adventure, the investigative philanthropic news association called The Markup, with assistance from some enormous givers including Craigslist author, Craig Newmark.
The Markup prime supporters Angwin, Larson and official chief Sue Gardner (the previous leader of the Wikimedia Foundation), are upheld by a $20 million gift from Newmark, organizer of craigslist and Craig Newmark Philanthropies; $2 million from the John S. also, James L. Knight Foundation; and extra help from the Ford Foundation and the John D. what's more, Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, as indicated by an announcement.
The undertaking was brooded with a speculation from the Ethics and Governance of Artificial Intelligence Initiative and news of the new media adventure was first announced in The New York Times.
"In a sound society, there's a progressing discussion about what's in people in general intrigue—a discussion that incorporates officials, controllers, the organizations of common society, the private division, and the overall population," said Gardner, in an announcement. "We aren't having that discussion right now about new advances in light of the fact that the level of comprehension of their belongings is too low. Newmark has been occupied with numerous humanitarian ventures. He's put $500,000 of his cash toward lessening badgering on Wikipedia and has promised $1 million to Angwin and Larson's old managers at ProPublica.
